Genetics

 Image result for genetics

Summary: This week we explored the world of Genetics. Genes are whats passed down from the generations from parent to kid. This is a determining factor on how they look and traits the child will have. Genes are also how we get our ethnicity and someone of our traits. This is how families look alike and how families can have a highly likelihood of some disease. Its all in your genes.

S&EP: This week we asked questions defined problems. This week we started making superheros by using a mix of animal genetics. This got me asking many questions. I had to look at the special abilities of angler fish. I thought about how to transform these abilities into something a human body could do. This made me think about reason and also made me ask questions about what the angler fish does. I looked deeper into what this amazing fish does to make a unique superhero in the end. I also defined problems when I asked things like how will the huge moth fit or how will the antenna work with the human shape. These were just a few questions I had to ask to make my character.

XCC: This week I had to challenge scale proportion and quantity. When I was designing my superhero this came in play a lot. First of all since an angler fishes jaw sticks out from its face making a huge crescent shape I had to consider if and how I would add such a strange thing to a human. I also had to ask myself about to make the outfit  match the fishes body. This made me think about the proportions and if I had to enlarge or make anything smaller. The proportions were the hardest part especially since the angler fish has an extremely odd shape.

Human Body Redesign 2.0

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0Bx-YZRNKCrN-a3F2Z0hvYkl4b1dUd2dEV0dzVUVLQ1V6LVBj
Summary: During this project I learned a lot about the esophagus and the digestive system. First of all the esophagus has one major problem. Acid reflux. Acid reflux is when your stomach acids come up and burn your lower esophagus. This causes pain to many people in the USA and the world. My team and I decided we needed to find how to fix this. Of course to do this we needed to find the source of the problem. That is the mucosa. The mucosa is what the interior of the esophagus is made of. The mucosa can burn. This is when things got simple. What doesn't burn easily? Muscles! This is when we got our design. I learned that adding smooth muscle would be the best way to get rid of the burning. We decided to chose smooth muscle and the project was complete!

Backwards Looking: Before we started this project I didn't not know as much as I knew now but I had a general understanding of it. Any time that I had researched it before it was only general facts. I have never gone this in depth with any other system and I have feeling it was very beneficial. Getting to see how a everything works deeper than just the first layer made me see the digestive system very different.

Inward Looking; For this project I did have a few goals. One of the goals was to have an interactive presentation. When I heard that we should not do a presentation  because it was boring I knew we had to make ours special. I had a feeling people would either just still do a presentation or do a video. So one of my first goals was to find a presentation that would engage our audience. My second goal was to make sure we had all our work done within the time. This may seem like a silly goal because of course you must do that, yet there was a point when I really thought we would not be able to get this project done. So I made a goal that we must get it done in whatever ways we can. Then finally my last goal. My goal was to make sure my presentation was fun. Since we added the skit and other fun things to the presentation I wanted to make sure I was having loads of fun. My thoughts are even if you mess up people will respect you if you just go for it. Thats a lot more impressive than the person that just does nothing and shies away.

Outward Looking: I feel that we did our work very differently than the rest of the groups. First of all we were behind everyone. We took a lot of our time to get our redesign idea. Looking through at our idea now I can tell that paid off. Since we did extensive research our idea was very well planned. Then after that we also were the only group to make a 3d model.  This was very surprising because usually people like to do that but no this time we were alone. Then last of all our presentation. Our presentation was more of a skit and ignite presentation. This was unlike anything anyone else did. It was almost out of the box in my opinion. In the end I felt that ours stood out because of our changes.

Forward Looking: Next time I would like to work on a few things. The main thing I would like to work on is focus. During this project I struggled a lot to focus on the task. This made it hard for me and my team. I just was really struggling to keep my attention on all the facts. I think though that just the reading and reading of articles bored me so I struggled. Another thing is I would like to have practiced the script. Before we presented we had never practiced so I was worried. Over all though it was a wonderful project with a wonderful group  making it an even more wonderful experience.

Redesigning the Digestive System

File:Digestive-organs,jpg (1).png

Summary: There are a lot of flaws with the digestive system. My team and I have found one that is exceptionally bad. We are now on a mission to solve this terrible problem. The problem of acid reflux.  I know it terrifying try not to fall out your seat. This terrible phenomenon is when your stomach acids come up and burn the esophagus. Pretty painful right, well it can even get worse. If this happens a lot to you it means you are more likely to get esophagus cancer.  Esophagus cancer is in the top ten list of worst cancers. We are now researching deeply to find a new innovative way to fix this catastrophe.

S&EP: This week we asked question and defined problems. We had to ask lots of questions based on our previous understanding of the digestive system. We asked things like, What causes acid reflux?, How common is it? ,What does it do to the body? Of course it became our mission to answer all these questions. Every time we discovered  the answer to one question we had many more. The real question that trips everyone up though is how do you fix it? Even my "highly qualified" group and I are having trouble answering this question. The real mission over all is making your questions problem. Then making your problems fixable.  Its a difficult task yet the future is now thanks to science!

XCC: This week we worked with Systems and System Models. I hope you know by now that the digestive SYSTEM, is just one of many systems in your body. The real challenge of such a huge systematic order is one change completely off sets it all. When you have systems you need  a good balance. You have to fix the problem or problems to the needs of the system yet you cant change it where it will hurt another system. For example if I wanted to prevent choking hazards I cant just say lets close the wind pipe completely, That would make it so we cant breathe. Not such a good idea. When balancing systems and studying them you learn so much about the machine that is the human. A real beautiful thing now isn't it?

Science Omnivores verses Vegetarians WAC Essay

The Vegetarian Diet is over all healthier than the Omnivores Diet. Millions of people die each year from starvation, and diseases. With a Vegetarian Diet we can prevent this. The Vegetarian diet has a way of making the bodies overall health tremendously better. Since you are not putting in all the impact that meat can hold on your life you have a much less likelihood of getting a handful of deadly diseases. Diseases are a main killer on our globe. If we want to have the health of ourselves be better, the health of our country be better. Than we must go for the best solution the Vegetarian Diet.

Reason 1:
In the Article Should People become Vegetarian? By ProCon. Org it states, " Vegetarians have a 24% lower chance of getting heart disease and it lowers blood pressure." This is referring to the high blood pressure that meat brings to your body. High blood pressure is bad for many reasons. The main reasons though are that it causes many heart related diseases and it is horrible for people with diabetes. Let me give a better understanding why this is so crucial. Your heart is an organ that you can not live without and a heart related disease would prevent it from being able to do its good. So in the end you would die without it all because you were eating meat. Then people with diabetes take up 9.3% of the population. With vegetarian diet there life will not be in danger as often. This high blood pressure levels are very bad for these people and with them it will decrease there health. This is why a Vegetarian diet will make you over all healthier  with or without disease.

Reason 2:
In the Article Should People become Vegetarians? By ProCon. Org it states, "It takes over 10 pounds of crop life to make 1 pound of meat. If we just go straight to giving this crop to people we will make it so 800 million people around the world could not suffer from starvation." As you can tell Omnivores are using this crop life and making less food. If people turn over to the vegetarian side then we can save people from starvation. Using this much resource on a pleasure is unnecessary and unreasonable. With more people with a vegetarian diet means more over all health in countries. Why waste when we can save?

Reason 3:
In the Article Is it healthier to be a Vegetarian or an Omnivore? by SENCER it states, " Animals cause high cholesterol and helps aid to cardiovascular diseases, cerebrovascular diseases and obesity."  Pretty crazy right! Just choosing a life style can make your health terrible if you were to get anyone of these things it would make your life much more difficult. The overall health of the human would be majorly effected. You would always have to be careful and you would never know when something could happen to you. Animals can be good yes but they can also be like a knife cutting into someones perfect health. Don't choose a life style that can lead to disaster. Be a Vegetarian.

Strong Finish: As you can tell choosing a lifestyle like this is almost suicidal. It can give you so many life threatening diseases when our goal here is to preserve our bodies. Giving yourself a higher likelihood of disease or even death is almost a joke to this problem.  We want to make yourself live longer. Stay stronger and be able to live a healthy life. Choose Vegetarian if not for yourself do it for other. DO it for the world's overall health.

Counter Argument:

Omnivores may say.....
Meat is the easiest way from your body to get the required iron for blood. With this source of iron  humans would die! We need a consistent intake of it for the new blood cells. Why choose a lifestyle that cant provide? When meat goes through your digestive system since it is high in iron because once your meat did have iron in its blood it makes it so your blood can use that. We need to give our body a source. The goal is to live here right?

Vegetarians would say.....
Even though meat may be the easiest way doesn't mean its the best. Actually vegetables are the best source of iron you can get. Even though meat may be able to have its impact in a time restraint this is not a race. Also then way that you get iron from meat is actually bad for you. It has a bad effect on the circulatory system. The goal here is to provide. Base line that's it, it doesn't have to be the fastest to be the best. This is yet another reason why the vegetarian diet is better.

Conclusion:
In conclusion we can make the clear statement that Vegetarians diet is overall healthier. We have seen this in the strongest way our disease. Disease take people way more painfully then a bullet does. We want to be healthy as a nation as a world. We need to prevent this from happening. Supporting meat eating could be somes demise.  If we want to stay healthy and live in peace. We should give peace of mind. Be a Vegetarian.

Immune System

Image result for the immune system

Immune System

Function: The function of the immune system is to get rid of disease, viruses, and illness from the body.

Organs: The organs are the Tonsils,Thymus Gland,Spleen,Lymph Nodes, Lymphatic Vessels, Moucos Membrane in nose, throat, bladder and genitals. Then there is the Bowel, bone marrow and skin. Phew that's a lot. Of course im not going to bore you with the detail of them all. All you must really know is they all hold the same purpose. There purpose is to protect us from disease illness and bacteria. For example the bone marrow. This is where the white cells are made. The white cells are what is sent in the body to fight against anything that could harm. Then you have the lymph nodes. The lymph nodes make lymphocytes. Those are also white blood cells. Yep there pretty important.  Think without them our body would be corrupted with loads of disease right now with them.

Interaction with other systems: It works extremely close with the circulatory system.  The circulatory system is how all these important white blood cells get around your body to fight off these bad things. Without each other things would be very bad. You see the immune system uses the circulatory system to help the rest of the body. Then without the immune system the circulatory system would slowly die off with the rest of the body.
Image result for soldiers

Analogy: The white blood cells are like soldiers. The white blood cells go out and fight for the bodies health. Just like soldiers. Soldiers instead fight for there country. You can kinda think of your body like that to. It is like a country. It is the big scale of everything to
everything inside. This why the white blood cells are just like soldiers. So we can live another day!

Structure and Function: The glands are shaped placed and sized the way they are for a reason.  The shape is special for its placement. The shape of the gland is right under your jaw. This means that it is fit the rest under our jaw line. It fits into a perfect slot between your law and your neck. Placement is important. Being placed need your brain is deter mental to the flow of white blood cells. Blood moves to the brain all the time. This makes it so the white blood cells can just be dropped of in that consistent flow of blood. Then last but not least size. The size of the gland must be small. You dont want them to be big because bigger means more production of white blood cells.  Yes it is good to have white blood cells but we dont want them to fill up the entire blood stream. You also dont want them to be too exposed since they are a huge central to health in the body. All this makes it so it can function the way it must to save us.

Cell Division And Cells to Organisms

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/7/7a/Female_with_organs.png

Summary:  You are filled with cells. Now think how did you get to that point. How did you get organs and tissues. There is an answer! Cell division. Cell division in the process where one cell becomes two cells. Disclaimer NO cells were hurt in this process. Now how is that so? How can a cell just appear out of another? Well you see  there are 2 main steps that make this possible. Mitosis and Cythosis. The best way to think of Mitosis is as the Ctrl C and V part of this process. This makes sure the first cell doesn't just keep on ripping apart like a paper. This step also makes DNA. Yep DNA is the map of everything your made up of. You can kinda think of yourself as a building and the builders (cells) are using our blue prints to make you. Now there is Cytosis. Cythosis is the part where it stabilizes the new cell. It also starts adding in the nucleus and prepares it for the cycle to start over again.

S&EP: This week I  constructed explanations and designed solutions.  This week we did the cell division flip book. In this flip book we had to make the stages of cell division frame by frame. You can kinda think of it like stop motion. You can't make your pictures all over the place because your watcher will get lost and it would be jumpy. You also can't make it too slow because it will never move fast enough. We did have to use that happy medium to make the motions it goes through as best we could. If you were to look at the book you would learn a lot more about it and it could explain a lot about the topic. So this week we had to explain using this art flip book to help make others and ourselves better understand.

XXC: Systems and system models: This one was a no brainer. So for about 2 days this week we have been reviewing body systems. What are these systems you ask. They are groups of organs thats work together to complete a task such as digestion of breathing. These systems all help improve/ make possible our lives. These systems don't just come out of nowhere though you must start of with a group of cells. These groups of cells are all the same so they team up as tissues. Now that we got multiply tissues of the same function we get an organ. This organ performs a certain function then we start linking together and make a organ system. You get it now. Our bodies are full of systems and without them we could not function.

Cell Multiplication And The Cell Membrane

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/4/49/Cell_division_according_to_E._Strasburger_(1875).png/320px-Cell_division_according_to_E._Strasburger_(1875).png
Summary: How does a cell just sprout out of a preexisting cell. Like what the. That makes no sense yet it really does and here is why. There are two major parts of creating a new cell from a pre existing one. First of all you need to use mitosis. Mistis is not a very simple task though. It requires 4 stages as seen up above.  I don't want to have to get into crazy details because well a reader gets bored so lets make this quick. First of all you have two daughters( the black dots of pulling points in the cells) that are what mostly drives the two cells apart. First of all they strand some spindles to the connections in the middle ( nucleus) Then the two daughter start to pull apart from each other. Then they copy the Dna. Ok I know DNA what even is that. Well it is like the architecture of a building, the blueprints of all that is to be done. DNA is your blue prints. Ok since they have the DNA then your cells can split. Now we have that cytosis well this is how the cell opens itself up and collect molecules which makes it so it can start all over. Then they all live happily ever after.  Alright lets move on.

S&EP: This week we have some of the most Analise of data than ever before. This week we have been using Gizmos and the papers that come with it to fully digest the ideas of cell division, We have gotten to see through visually how this process works and have also drafted down the information. We have been even asked lots of scientific question on how this works and the steps it takes. With these new sheets I have really learned a lot more.

XXC: This week we have used Cause and Effect. You remember way back when you look at title. Well it talks about The Cell's Membrane. This is it's time to shine. We have discovered lots about the importance of the cell membrane and soon enough you will know to. The cell membrane  is a thin wall between the outside world and the cells in your body. it is not just a bag for the cell it is also the way that the  molecules get in and out of the cell. We have learned about his using the simple example of an egg. An egg has a cell membrane and we can use test to deserve what it can really do. The cell membrane can take in usually liquids so that is what we testred. We say that effects the solvents did to the cell/egg. we saw 3 things happen with the different types of liquid . I fell they were a perfect example of how cause and effect happens in our body every day.

Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration

Image result for photosynthesis and cellular respiration
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/6/61/Auto-and_heterotrophs.png/880px-Auto-and_heterotrophs.png
Summary: This week I have found the secret the animal survival. I wonder how I just accepted the facts that yep plants let me breath. I guess I thought that  well this all checks out the scientist say it so it seems pretty realistic then though nothing of it. Well now I am here to tell you that's not it. There is a lot more science behind it. Without one another this world would cease to exist.  Well you see there are a few things that make this process work.  You first got your reactants those you can consider the building materials for these process. Then once the action is done they let of products. Then those products would be the let's say photosynthesis reactants then it goes on an on. I've learned a little more about the function of this world. I have learned about photosynthesis more and newly discovered cellular respiration. Now that we got that cover let's get into our S&EP.

S&EP: This week we started to conduct an investigation. I just thought that this investigation was the coolest thing. we have started our learnings in how things get in and out of the cell through the cell membrane.  So we have used instead of  the cell an egg. They have been soaked in vinegar and now we must see how different liquids go through the egg's "cell membrane". we are all conducting an investigation to see how this all works and already looked to see what we think will absorb the most. I am anticipating the result and am eager to find out. Now let's get into the XXC.

XXC: This week I saw Cause an Effect. First of all i'm not sure if you would consider this a cycle of cause and effect but close enough. I got to closely observe how plants "breath in" and "breath out" .I  know it sound odd but really the do in a way. You can think of photosynthesis as breathing in. Then cellular respiration in like the process of breathing out. The breathing in causes breathing out and it repeats. That's all i got for now see ya next week on the adventures of 7th grade science.

The Micro Molecules

https://encrypted-tbn1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRtL9HuONnaJJjFeTRd-aPeWxF9Wo0_vWrO7nntnnmfmxeX7mEmdQ
Summary: This week we learned about the great macromolecules. There are 4 macromolecules that make us up. 1. is nucleic acids. Those are your DNA and RNA. 2. is your carbohydrates. Carbohydrates are your carbs such as spaghetti, rice and sugar. 3. is lipids. Lipids are the fats, waxes, and oils. Then last of all is the Proteins.  Proteins are the  meats like fish, chicken, and beef.
This is what i've learn so let's get right into the S&EP.

S&EP #1: This week we have also been asked lots of questions based on photosynthesis. My class had trouble remembering all the facts of photosynthesis. We got challenged to remember how photosynthesis works and learned lots of new things. One of the coolest things I learned this week that my friend actually knew was that plants are any color but green. It refracts the colors it can't absorb. Those are a few things I had to remember this week and a bit of what I learned now let's get into the XXC.

XXC: Patterns: Science is filled with patterns. That is why it makes sense things can be consistent and inconsistent. This week we saw patterns within the macromolecules. First of all the most common pattern seen among each macromolecules. They are filled with at least one of these elements. Carbon, Hydrogen,Oxygen,Nitrogen and Phosphates. Each of the macromolecules have at least more then one of these and they usually come in 3 or more. That is a pattern amongst all of the macromolecules and is a great example of a pattern. That is a bit of what I have learn and GOODNIGHT

Cell Wars: The Ribosome

Summary: During this project I have learned a lot. The world of cells are a lot wider than I have ever imagined. Everything has role that aids to the function of life. Now that I you have heard about my life changing experience lets talk Ribosomes. Ribosomes are only the best organelle in the entire cell
( Well it's not actually a orginelle). Ribosome make most of our appearance. They make hair, skin, bones, and nails. Pretty important right well there is more. They also are very small and either free rome or the cling to other organelles. I know what you're thinking wow why would we want a clingy president, well isn't it better then a presents that takes up most of the cell.Nucleus (cough cough). Alright then those are just a few things I learned.

Backward Looking: Before I started I actually had no clue that a ribosome was a thing. Actually before this project I was not really aware of the other organelles in the cell and their importance.  I did know though about the vacuole and little about the basic ones. Some of the basic things I knew were the cell membrane, nucleus, cell wall and a bit more. Ya before this i was kind of blind of the world of cell land.

Inward Looking: I am very proud in my group's work. Why wouldn't I be we thrived through this project and overcame  a lot during this project. The one piece that I really enjoyed making and watching my video. it was wonderful to make and be a part of. Even if people don't vote us i think my group did our very best. Isn't that what it's all about.

Outward Looking: I feel like we didn't really work like other groups. From what I have seen yes lots of people had the same idea for a video like the  newscast but ours was very different. We had a creative spin to our work. We were not just a team but we were the ribosomes. I feel like we took almost too much pride in our group. Yes things may be similar in the end to other peoples but the way our group worked was what made this project.

Forward Looking; if I could have done this project over I would have changed a bit. The main thing I would have done was check the rubric more. I feel like that could bring us down a bit because we didn't really check if we had it all. I also wish that I would have know that we had to rate the websites with the cites. Over all I have to say that I just should have been more accurate with the rubic.

The Cell Wars PArt 4

https://c1.staticflickr.com/3/2609/3902609089_4e2565e791.jpg
Summary: The Ribosome is sure to win. Ok i'm not trying to be cocky or anything but from the facts I have learned this week I think they are just too important to deal without.I have figured out that they make your skin, bones, hair, nails, and tissues. when I figured that out I couldn't believe it, we would be a like blob fish without ribosome. One thng I would like to do though after im done with everything id like to learn a little more about my compition. This is what I have learned and what I want to learn.

SP6: This week I got to help explain the importance of my organelle. I even got to prove the greatness of it. I responded to 2 comments and explained why ribosome do those things. Another thing that I did this week was make my posters for the campaign. I got to explain through a simple visual how great my organelle is. I think that's so great because not everyone wants to take lots of time to understand the importance of the ribosome. Those are just a few things that made me construct explanation.

XXC: Now this is the point where I just tell you all about the ribosome. I have already told you what  the ribosome is like. Ok  first the quantity well they may have the highest amount of them compared to all the organelles in the entire cell. Alright here we go, they have 10 million ribosome in just one cell. Now that you know just how many they really are let's get into the scale of a ribosome, well they reason why so many can fit is because they happen to be the smallest of all the organelles in the cell. That is just a bit of what I have learned and I hope to get to know more.

Cell Wars Part 2

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/e4/50S-subunit_of_the_ribosome_3CC2.png

Summary:
The Ribosome is actually very important to the cell. I don't know why I didn't used to know what it was. For instance, the ribosome is an organelle in the cell that creates protein. So this week I had to see what protien really does.I learned that proteins actually help make the tissues and the organs in your body. That not all they also grow your hair. Another thing I learned this week was that we can't do this job alone. The golgi body is actual what " packages" and send the proteins, that is why we haven't smeared them because we can't function without them. These are just a few things I have have learned this week about our wonderful organelle.
SP3: This my team and I conducted investigation a bit this week. You see we didn't always understand the information we had gotten. For example we didn;t really know what proteins do. So we had to investigate a little deeper into the meaning behind the first coat. Now I am very confident about our organelle because it important. I had to investigate this though and had to dig deeper into what was just their.
XCC Scale, proportion and quantity: The ribosome are very interesting. Unlike most of the organelles they come in large quantities. This is because they actually float around freely mostly. They also sometimes go onto the other organelles. This must sound crazy but this can work because of their scale. The actually are very small. They even are the smallest organelle in the entire cell. Unlike the nucleus and cytoplast they don't take much space. That's what I took from this week.

Cell Wars

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/c/c6/10_large_subunit.gif
Summary:  The campaign of the century. These are the parts of the cells. All  life has cells so this campaign is very important. Normally the nucleus ( the brain of the cell) is in power, but it's up to us to elect a new leader of the cell. We got  assignment the Ribosome. It's a very important part of the cell because it provided protein for the cell and without that the cell would surely perish. Ribosomes are actually found in a great abundance in the cell. They are small yet very important.

S&EP:
Arguing from evidence: This week we argued from evidence will working on the odd one out worksheet. In this worksheet we had to find something that was unlike the rest. This sparked scientific arguments. For example, we asked " What makes something alive?" For this we had lots of different answers because we had to remember first what are organism that are alive in the world. One of the questions asked find the odd one out horse muscle, leaf of a plant, sugar. We had to ask ourselves is sugar alive, why or why not? This sparked very interesting conversation which were very informational.

XCC: Patterns:  When we worked on the odd one out worksheet I saw lots of patterns. These patterns are the ones that define life verses lifeless. A  question that we had was find the odd one out horse muscle, leaf, sugar. At the end we said sugar but the way we got there was more interesting. First we had to ask What do all living things have in common. They have the same pattern to each and every one. For example a human grows, breaths, reproduces and gains nutrients but so does a plant. Then we started looking at the patterns between life. We all were made of cells which had different parts to them. Throught this activity we saw lots of patterns and shared characteristics.

Food Creation

http://ghirardelli.bayareacreativeservices.com/sites/default/files/about/chocolate_steps.jpg
This is the way they make there chocolate.

This week we have been going deeper into the process of food creation. We have learned the steps it takes to make foods. It is a lot more complicated then you'd expect. We also are learning this so we can determine how each step wastes. We have talked about apples as a class and in our group talked about chocolate. I have learned a lot about the way my food is made.

This week we analyzed data. So to start we had all the steps how apples get to up all in a random order. Then we had to organize them in the way we though they should go. After that we all moved clockwise to see other people's work. I really liked seeing other work because it should me somethings I had missed and I would have not noticed if it was not pointed out. Then the next day we used what we knew about the process and did it with another food. We have done it with chocolate. This week I learned how my food is made and some way we waste it.

This week we used patterns. I say we used patterns because every food you have has the same pattern it goes through. From apples to chocolate they still have the same process. I noticed this the most when I started to do the process with the chocolate.I could see that it went though the same steps as the apple just done differently. This week I really have noticed the pattern in all foods.

This week I was a Creator learner.

Biome Project Blog

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/90/Sonora_Desert_2007.jpg

Summary:During this project we got selected a biome and it was the desert. we choose to be more specific and choose the Sonoran desert. My group and I got to learn about all the materials and organisms we would need to survive. We learned about animals and plants and how we can use them. We learned about ways to find water and make fire. We got to learn lots of cool techniques on how to survive. For example, we learned different techniques other than  the friction technique for making a fire. I also got to work on animals and learn lots of cool information about them. That is just a bit of what we have done this week.

Backward Looking: Before I started this a knew a few techniques on how to survive in the desert.
Then after I really got started I realized that there is a lot more to survival than I would have imagined. There is a lot to worry about when surviving,It seems like everything is a threat when you are trying to survive. At first all I really knew was that you could eat the inside of a cactus and that you could use animals for lots of resources but other than that I knew nothing. Looking back I don't think I would have ever been prepared to survive in this biome.

Inward Looking: There where a few things during this project that was frustrating. It was annoying having to always check my resource. I wanted to make sure that the animals where really in this habitat so I checked it every single time to make sure it was. This lead to my part taking longer. Another thing that was frustrating was when a website was misleading and did not help with my research. This is always an annoying thing when you read a website and can't take anything out of it. Those was just a few of what was annoying but the project did go really well in my opinion. I think it could have been a lot more frustrating if I did not have such a great team.

Outward Looking: I think that we worked differently compared to the other groups. We mostly did all of the preparations for our poster and diagram in class like everyone. Then we did something different, we actually brought it home and just pt all the pieces together there. All the other groups worked on it all in class but we just worked on the preparation. we got all the papers ready so it was not very hard, all we had to do was glue it on. we just got one member to do the gluing at there house and it was all set. We did things a little differently than others but it was still an effective tactic.

Forward Looking: I think that we could have done a some thing better. I believe that we could have made it so we were all doing something all the time, but it did end up fine anyway. Sometimes my team members got distracted but over all they did still get there work done so I can't complain.  i think overall are work ethic was great and we got everything done. I know we did a good job and that all that matters. I am proud of our work.

Biome Project Part 1

https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSmYCe4vlmRFwpmEyrlAr27NLehHYqFXwtvWjQ9ec8ld6rUFKtQ

This week we have been working on our biome projects. We had launched them last week and we got the desert. My group had picked the sonoran desert. We have been doing research on the supplies we will need to survive and how we will get it. We will need food, water, animals, shelter, fire, plants,  and hazardous animals. These are things we need to know about if we were to go in this desert so we are researching it. This week has been all research and it is going well.

This week we have explained and designed solutions. We did this by using the research we had done to make a guide of some sort. we have used the data to help people understand what to do and how to do it. We also have explained mostly for plants and animals what they are and what they do. We have used the information obtained to give good explanation on how to survive.

Patterns: We have have seen a few patterns during this research. For example if something is poisonous in the desert that usually makes its one of your biggest threats. I can see this though lost of my research and it makes we see a pattern. also I can see a pattern in the uses of items like for example every time we found an animal with a hid or fur them we would try and use it in shelter because it protect you. I can see a pattern in that because every time you have the fur it makes you think of protection. These are just a few pattern I saw this week.

Message in a Bottle - The Great Bottle Trip

The people of the Galapagos Island was a small island and all the people on the island  had  grow up there never left. That all changed though one fine day. One day a plastic bottle floated near the island at the coast. The place it went was the Cline Family's Home. They where scientist that tracked the ocean around them. They mostly tracked the currents. So Mrs. Cline was taking her morning walk and she saw a strange cylinder shaped thing in the water. She went and looked at it a little closer and saw some words on it. It said " Great Bay Water Bottles" but the coolest thing about it was it floated on the water. In the future they would discover this was an example of density. Density is the ratio of mass to volume. She was so interested in this she went home to show her husband. When she got home she saw her husband bent over a work bench. " I can't figure it out I need do do something to test on my theories." "Hello guess what I found." Mrs Cline said. " Fruit" guessed Mr Cline. " No I found this floating bottle." she said. He jumped up from his work. " What a floating device this is what I need!" he said. He started to pace around the room in excitement. " Here" she said. Then for months they started to build. they made a giant bottle like a boat. In the Summer they set of on a great expedition to learn more about the sea and currents. They set of and a few weeks in they started one of there first tests. " We should research the water in the ocean." said Mr. Cline. " They may have something to do with the currents." Then they put a contraption meant for collecting water and they lowered it as far down as they could go. Then one they got that water they got some water from the surface of the water. Mr. Cline tested both of the waters and found out two things about each waters. The water from the bottom of the ocean's results  were it was cold and it was very salty. Then the water on the surface it was warm and was less salty. In the future they would figure out this is because of salinity. Salinity is the amount of salt int the water and in the ocean there are different levels of salinity. Mr. Cline tracked his theory of the currents though the 3 year journey. He was right he had figured all the currents and was the first person in the world to do so! Once the trip was over in the Santa Barbra Islands he got a hold of some really famous scientists. They had a huge board meeting about what he had learned. He talked about density, sanity and the currents. The scientist where fascinated with this and all his proof was solid. Mr. Cline and his wife became famous for what they had discovered. In the future they ever helped name the currents. the currents they rode on that great bottle Journey where the S. Equatorial Current, E. Counter Current, N. Equatorial Current, Subtropical Gyre, and California C.

Ocean and Wind Currents

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/cc/Ocean_surface_currents.jpg/640px-Ocean_surface_currents.jpg

This week we have been learning about ocean currents. We have been learning about their patterns and how they connect to wind currents. We have learned that wind currents help power ocean currents so we are seeing the connection between the two. We have even been conducting experiments. These experiments can help us prove our thinking on the connection between wind currents and ocean current. This week has been great getting to learn all about how are ocean currents work.

This week we used models. we used models by learning from pictures of ocean currents and wind currents. We also used are experiments that modeled the world for us so we could see how everything moves. We used these models to determine lots of factors this week. For example,we did an experiment where we blew out of straw s and we got to see from that how the northern hemisphere turns and why and the  same for the southern hemisphere. This week we have used our models to learn.

This week we learned about cause and effect in ocean and wind currents. we learned that wind currents effect and help great ocean currents. We also learned that ocean currents can cause items to move along with the current. We have seen how win effect the direction of a current. We have also seen the influence that winds can have on that water. This week we have learned a lot about how these can cause and effect things to happen in our world.

Globe Work

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/6/65/Globe_logo.svg/2000px-Globe_logo.svg.png
Summary: This week for a few days we have been studying the globe. We have been working on a paper and determining  information about trips across the world's oceans and land. We have been making up our own routes and seeing how long it would take, some struggles you would encounter, etc. We have been review the topic of longitude and latitude lines and have been using them alot. This week we have been exploring the globe.

This week we have been using models. We have been using blow up balls that look like the earth. We drew with dry eraser marker on them to trace some routes. We have been making some inferences too. We had to guess some struggles we may have because none of us have been to these places. We also had to use estimates on are pencils by using them to indicate days. This week we have been working with both math, inferences, and models.

This week we worked with cause and effect. When we were mapping out are routes across the ocean and continents we had to use cause and effect. we used it because none of us had been to these places but we did know some knowledge about them. First of all we went through egypt and we know egypt is hot. So I can conclude you  would struggle with heat because of the sun in egypt. That's not all we did a lot of this thinking this week to solve these problems.

This week I was a initiator learner.

Environmental Detective WAC Results for Mysterious Fish Kill

Dear Editor,

I am a detective for the Case of the Dying Fish in Gray Bay. For the past 3 weeks I have been researching different suspects for the fish kill. I have done a lot of studying to see which suspect does what effect to the environment. I have seen how these effect change the fish. I have finally concluded the true culprit. The culprit is Avery Wun, is guilty of the death of the fish

First of all Avery Wun if polluting the air with gas from her cars. This gas causes acid rain. From my studies I have learned that acid rain is very dangerous, for the fish and very few fish survive from it. The Acid Rain Files say " If the water becomes too acidic, some fish survive but many others die. even if the adult fish live, they may not be able to have babies." Avery Wun's cars are polluting the Gray Bay area with the gas from the cars that turn into acid rain. I have also learned that  The Rafta river is full of acid but I have an explanation. The gas from the cars that are in the city travels into the air and get turned into acid rain but while that happens the clouds move up near the Rafta and then it rains the deadly acid rain.

Second of all Avery Wun is also is adding oil to the water. As we all know oil is very deadly to animals. The results from the Oil Chromatography Test said that the oil in the water where a matter of fact from cars. These results mean nothing if you can't interpret them but luckily I have learned a little about oil. She even said herself that the oil is dangerous. At the meeting Avery Wun stated, " And FISH. I've read that oil can coat water animals and kill them. It's also poisonous if eaten. Some oil sinks to the bottom and harms the creatures that live there. It also affects the food chain. If one animal population dies from the oil, other animals that eat them will have less food to eat." These are solid facts that I know from prier knowledge they are true.Think of all the other cases, many fish kills are due to oil in the water. The oil has killed 14 fish but that is not the majority. I have an explanation though.

Acid rain also has another effect. The acid rain files have told us that acid rain can take away oxygen from the water. The way that it does this is because is it kills the algae and the algae is a main source of oxygen in the water. Think of algae as the waters trees if they die the fish will die along with it. Algae is also there food source so they will die either way. I learned this information from the acid rain files as well from this line " Most lakes are a little bit acidic, but the lakes with the most life in them are a little basic. Water plants can make more oxygen in lakes that are slightly basic. Water life needs oxygen in the water to breathe." This caught my eye because it proves that acidic rain can kill maybe not the fish directly but it will eventually. Without your food and water you can't survive. In the results for the Autopsy it said that 21 fish suffocated from lack of O2. So this just proves that she is guilty of the fish kill.

One thing you could say is the person killing the fish is Sandy Trapps because she was causing the algae bloom. She is over fertilizing her land to keep the grass green. An algae bloom can easily kill the fish. The reason why is because since there is so much algae the fish can't possible eat it all so they start to rot. The only place with this algae is James Pond. I learned the fact about the bacteria and algae from this statement that was in the algae bloom files." Too many water plant. If there are lots of dying water plants, the bacteria eating them that bacteria also eats up the O2 in the water.I do agree that there would have been a algae bloom but I some evidence that could prove differently. We are all familiar with the water cycle right? Well in the water cycle the clouds don't always move one way. I am saying that the acid rain coming for the city will go to James pond especially since it is only to the left of it. So eventually I move left and put acid rain in the pond. This acid rain will kill the algae making it so the algae bloom is not severe. So it would not be the thing killing the fish.

In conclusion Avery Wun is guilty. She is the true culprit of this fish kill. Avery Wun must change her ways. She must stop what she is doing or she should be punished. She has been hurting the environment and killing the ecosystem.Avery Wun is the one killing fish, the others have been unrightfully been blamed for killing the fish. I have found you true fish killing culprit. the only way to stop this is to change the way she runs her perorations . She need to stop polluting the air and poring oil in the water. After she does this things will go back to normal and the fish kill can stop.

Sincerely,
Sienna

Environmental Detective Part 2

https://pixabay.com/static/uploads/photo/2015/10/07/03/51/magnifying-glass-975633_960_720.jpg

Summary:This week we have been doing more research to find out who is the true culprit of the fish kill. We have been investigatin by using scientific tools to determine what area is doing what effect. We have researched things like water life, bird, phosphates, algal, and so much more. We have been looking into the environmental state of this ecosystem. We have been trying to find out what would kill the fish the most.

This week we have been doing some Analyzing of Data. We have been using information we learn from test and connecting dots. we have been tracking thing made by humans and animals. we have been using scientific tools to find out information like how acidic the water is or how many phosphates do these places add? We been using this data to connect  the water to info. For example we have been using bio indicators such as duck and King fishers to find out about the algal bloom in the water.  This week we have been working on how to put our data with our info.

This week we have talked about Stability and Change. So from the beginning the problem has been that this environment is changing in a bad way and we need to figure out who has done it. The ecosystem is changing already. Without all the fish the kingfisher are dying and probably more animal will are are dying. We need to find out what is making this change happen and stop it before this food chain completely collapses.
