Erosion Data

https://encrypted-tbn2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTN5gXjJGDScfO-7PHvnXEU0iakIRAEqHV-adNgKl9M8aHsit8Q
Summary: This week we have been gathering information about erosion. We have been doing an activity that is teaching how terrain affects erosion and how much. we have had a sheet that is from a website. We  had to determine what the hill in this park should be made of and how high it should be.  We got to  find out and record the information and see what was the best. That is what we did this week. we also read bird brain and I learned about different ways things can erode.

SP8: Obtain, evaluate and communicate information: This week we obtain, evaluate and communicate information. We saw how certain terrain can affect how much something erodes.for example it something has no plant and it high and steep it will erode a lot. I know this from are activity. I communicated my information with my supporting data. I learned it is very beneficial to used a silt and sand mixture to stop erosion. It helps keep everything in place you also want a low incline and your right there you have barely any erosion. This is what I learned this week.

Dirt and Soil

https://encrypted-tbn1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQYZzRl2a05Wwe2-yKGO6IVZCRyufYQUBknZSNzLt2Z4fKlJoceKw

Summary: This week we have been learning the basics about soil.We have been researching background information on it to get to understand what soil is. We also have been learning about weathering and erosion. I was reminded that erosion is the process of moving broken down rocks. Weathering is breaking down rocks. We have also been learning about how soil helps us.Most of what we have learned is introductory. That is what we have been doing this week.

SP8: Obtain, evaluate and communicate information:This week we obtain information mostly. For example we go information from the book and website provided. We answered the background information. The questions they asked where mostly like what is soil ? ,what is soil made of?, what lives in soil?, etc. We did a lot of this kind of work thought out the week. We also watched a video telling us about soil and another video telling us about weathering and erosion. So this week we did lots of information gathering. Kind of laying down a foundation for the rest of the unite.

Natural Diaster Essay

Our group has done research and we have found the safest place in america. The safest place is Las Vegas,New Mexico. It has the least natural diasters it only has thunderstorms and they are not that bad. It is  also is very rocky there so it has a lower chance of getting tornadoes.Tornadoes are horrible.Las Vegas New Mexico is a very safe and good place to be. That is why we picked it.

It is almost free of everything because it dodges many area of  natural diasters. First it is not in tornado alley.Tornadoes are deadly and could easily kill you. They are a spiraling colon of wind  that  moves fast near homes and cites. It mostly goes in tornado alley because it is flat there so it is easier to form there.Secondly it misses the San Andreas Fault. That is a plate that has earthquakes a lot. Earth quakes are when  the ground under you starts to split and shake. They are definitely the deadliest of them all.It is violent and its not a good thing to be in. Las Vegas New Mexico is also really safe because of that.

Its it is really safe it does not even have blizzard. So many states have them in upper usa. Blizzards can bring bad things like frostbite, frozen wildlife and properties. Blizzards are when a lot of snow get picked up by air and wind and starts to blow around and  freeze you and other things. It misses lots of very dangerous things. It also misses wildfires. Unlike places like California and Texas it  misses the wild spread of wildfires. They do things like destroy homes, trees, grass, and forests. Wild fires are like they sound they are uncontrolled fires that move quickly across these things I have listed .It can even burn whole towns. They are in a really good spot because they are away from these.

Another thing it does not have is tsunamis. Tsunamis happen on the coast and it manges to miss it even though it is near the coast. Tsunamis can flood whole cites and drown people. They build up in the oceans and  come in a huge wave that is caused by an earth quake. It is super scary but they do not have to deal with that like other states do.They have been safe from all these things. They have a really safe state.

Ok now I will tell you the one yes only one thing that happens here. The natural diaster is thunderstorms. Thunder storms are a big storm with lightning and thunder. Most of the time the scariest thing about it is the sound it  makes a big bang will scare people. If you are safe in our home you should be fine. If you in your home you will never get hit. If you where to visit then you would just need to be inside. These are the reasons why you should go to  Las Vegas ,New Mexico  because its safe from harm.

Weather News

http://prepperbroadcasting.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/disaster-collage.gif

Summary:

This week we got in our groups. So you know how for the last two weeks I have been researching natural disasters. Now we have to get partnered with another group and make an advertisement about what the safest place in America is. Right now we have shown on a map where the locations of natural disasters are. We have also started on a script for a video we will make to advertise. It's going to be like a weather news report. Also this week in birdbrain I learned lots of new stuff like that  earthquakes are like waves and there is a P wave and an S wave. We also even have a above 7 earthquake 15 times each year!!! That is what I learned and did this week.

SP4: Analyzing and interpreting data:

This week we analyzed and drew are data on a map. So for the past 2 weeks we have been researching natural disasters. Now we have a map of the U.S. and we have to use letters to show where natural disasters are located according to the information we have obtained the past 2 weeks. So now that we have finished our map we are using the data and deciding what is the safest place in america. we have chosen New Mexico!!!! IT only has one natural disaster in it. It is very good and safe so that is why we chose it.

Natural Hazards Part 2

https://encrypted-tbn3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSdasz48voauBqamRvonx9CPawp3qlVn3iKkTpfsFR5uKohVr7u
Summary: In Part 2 of this project we learned about tornadoes, thunderstorms, and a little on blizzards. We have to write about these natural disasters. I learned  interesting facts like how thunderstorms can form tornadoes and make a "thundernado", sounds crazy right, just like this picture. I also got to find out where they were located, For example did you know that the area where tornadoes are is called the "Tornado Alley." These are just a few things I learned this week.

SP8: Obtain, evaluate and communicate information: We used this practice by looking up information on natural disasters. We used the paper to record our findings so we can use all the papers to make a conclusion. That conclusion is what is the safest place in America. We had to be able to determined 4 questions. What it is/ description, Where they occur/ Geographic occurrences, How they form/Formation Conditions, and The Resources used. So that is what we have had to do this week.

Natural Disasters

https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTF-u5wIa-NPncoxVt2-kjOPTbVbdaG55LDyw8lgJ-uEVji4NcK
Summary
This week we have been doing a project on Natural Disasters. We started by getting a paper on a natural disaster, such as, wildfires and thunderstorms. Then, we filled in the answers with data we have researched online. For example, our first paper was on wildfires. We worked to find out where they occur and how they were formed.  The purpose of the project was to figure out what the safest place in America is. So, we had to research and find out which place have the least natural hazards occurrences.

SP8: Obtain, evaluate and communicate information: I used scientific text from the link provided from our science class to find important information and evidence about natural disasters, such as, wildfires and thunderstorms . I read about how they form, where they occur, and what they are. We used this information to fill out sheets with questions on them to get our data so we can eventually get to a conclusion about what place in america is the safest to live. We have worked on the papers wildfires, thunderstorms and some of hurricane. We have started to learn which places seem to have lots going on. All this information I just know will lead us to our conclusion.

Siberian traps Presentation

https://drive.google.com/a/oakgrovesd.net/file/d/0B5eG7Vuz_Nq8SXdGdi11NGdxUE0/view

This week we presented  landform detective project. We did the Siberian Traps. We presented our project in front of the class. When we presented our project we used Ignite Presentations.  They advance the slides automatically every fifteen seconds.

Backward Looking: Before I started this project I did not even know that most of these landforms existed. I had never heard of the Siberian Traps and it stood out at me. I was mostly intrigued by it when I found out it was actually a volcano. Also, this is one of the world's coldest places. I really was surprised. It was also a very deadly eruption. So, I just thought that was crazy and interesting.

Inward looking: I really liked our work. I am very proud of what we did. I wish that for the presentation we would have gone slower because we felt rushed. I also wanted to show of the model more, so that was a bummer. For the most part, it was a great project and it was fun to do. I really think it was cool to learn about.

Outward Looking: I think that our presentation style was like everyone in our class. Most people did the same thing where they had to talk so fast. So, we were not the only ones. I do think that we did are model different though. Most people used just paint or clay but we used actual dirt. So we were different in that way. I also think that even though are mountains were different. I felt our model was unique to many of the other presentations.

Forward Looking: I wish that we had stuck to the plan to let Frank be the presenter for our group. Unfortunately, one of our teammates  wanted to see who would be best for the job. It was a little bit of a power struggle.  Then she got to be it and she got really stressed out. So in that regard, I wished we would have just let Frank present as planned. Otherwise, the overall project was great. However, that is what I would have changed if it were possible.
