This week we have been continuing the Environmental Detective Unit. We have been looking further into the mystery of who is really killing the fish. We have many suspects but we are doing the science behind it. we have done he science to see two thing. One how Acidic water is in certain areas. Then the second one was the sediment where we saw how dirty the water was in certain areas.

This week we have been analyzing a lot of data. This week we have been doing experiment with the water and testing to see if what a certain place happens to be doing to our environment is the main factor of the fish kill. The first experiment we did was a ph strip experiment. That is where you test to see how acidic water is. Just like for use we can't breath in acid it could kill us so it could do the same to the fish. Then the second test we did was to see how murky the water is. The fish can't live if the water is to hot. Also this makes it so alge can't grow which takes down the food chain. all of this is very good data that would make us think that they are doing it but we have many more test to run.

This week we worked with patterns. I think we worked with patterns this week because patterns can be like cause and effect. Like the natural pattern is if fish don't have healthy water then there food don't grow and without food they die and so on and so on. This is how things work to be more specific this is mostly the pattern that the food change takes place in. In our world we have many patterns not just the ones we have in our closet.  We also talked about another natural patterns the water cycle. It always looks the same and is a series of event that repeat.
This week I was a wanderer learner.

Environment Detective launch

http://www.cbf.org/image/Menhaden-CBFStaff_458x232.jpg

This week we have learned about the problem with the fish in the river that raging waters gets t water from. We have been assigned to be detectives on what is truly causing this problem. we have been seeing all the variables or suspect of this matter that could be killing the fish. We have to see what is the main contributor. We are the Bay Area's fish problem detectives.

This week I have been Conducting Investigations. We have used the are information that we see make to make hypothesis on how they could be affecting the river. We have used prior knowledge on what these places do to help us investigate the true culprit. There are many variables in this investigation so we need to figure out who affecting the fish the most killing them off. The fish in the water are dying it our jobs to find out the most likely person to do this. We are investigating the whole area around this river.

Cause and Effect: When you're working with a mystery there is always cause and effect. For example, because the farmer is using fertilizer near the water the fish are being poisoned. Everything must have a cause. In this project it all about this aspect, we need to be able to track the cause to really know who made this effect. With this we can learn more about what killed the fish.

Mackenzie River Part two

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/53/Mackenzierivermap.jpg

This week we have finish up the project I was talking about last week. We are doing as you can see and things have gone well. First of all are reseach was pretty thorough I just think there is not to much information on the river well not at least as much as others. We have improved are knowledge of this river a lot and we are prepared to make the video.

We have even made are video so far. The video is a little over 6 minutes. We spent a lot of time on the history though. This river has a rich history that  think is very important. Without this river Canada may have never become a country the it has done. We have also added some fun aspects to this video like cool characters. I am very proud of this and I am excited to share.

Mackenzie River

File:Mackenzierivermap.jpg

This week I started my project on the Mackenzie river. I have been mostly researching about the culture. I learned about the Inuits, Denes, and Metis. They were some of the first people near the river and even in Canada. I have also been starting to learn a little about how Europeans came in the the river.

WAC The Three Gorge Dams

China should not build any more of the hydro electric dams. First of all they have already used a lot of money to build the dams. Over 30 billion dollars! Second of all it is taking a huge amount of the people near the river's homes. Then last but not least these dams are covering up important historical monuments like the chalk wall in china. This one I think it is sad because they are covering up some of there history. Now generations later people may forget about these important historical monuments that are not covered by the river and dam.

How I got this information from these 3 quotes of the article. First of all "Eighteen years after construction began and at a cost of more than 30 billion." Secondly "More than 1.4 million people had to leave their family homes with little financial assistance." The last time we where here we could see all of the characters." These are the quotes from the article I choose because I think they brought across some good facts and points. I will tell you more about why I choose them though.

The first quote "Eighteen years after construction began and at a cost of more than 30 billion." I picked this because it give of a clear point they spent so much money on these dams already and they could use that money way better. The second said "More than 1.4 million people had to leave their family homes with little financial assistance." I think that this a horrible thing to do China these are your people and now you kick them out of there land.Another sad thing is that these are there farmers and they had to put them some where so they moved them into the mountain. Then the last quote " The last time we where here we could see all of the characters."

OK this makes no sense but what he is talking about is the Chalk Wall. Jordan Jones the one who wrote this article was there and the Chalk wall is a part of there history so they went to visit it.The difference this time is that they could only see half of  the characters on the wall. The rest where submerged into the water. The dams had made the water rise so now they are covered.

In conclusion China should not build any more hydro electric dams. The dam have helped them but there are way more con than pros.By building more dams they are hurting there people by taking away there home. They are covering up there important history and they are using up a lot of money.China should  use other options to make power and stop flooding. For power they could use the wind by building windmills. Then for flooding they can do thing in there cities to block the floods. There are so many better ways to do things.Making these dams are not a very good way.

Rivers

Summary: This week we have been learning about river and the parts of a river. I have learned the parts names and what they are. For example I never knew what a delta was but now I know. We also practiced labeling the parts of a river. We got to not only learn these definitions but we got to see where the are placed.
SP8: Obtain, evaluate and communicate information: This week we used definitions to locate the placement of what the ment in the diagrams. We got to use the diagrams and put the definition next to the part of the picture that had matched. I think this was useful because you got to see a visual of these definitions. It was pretty easy at first but then they got harder and harder. Like a good game you could say.

DIrt and Soil Project Blog

Summary: These few week we have been  doing are dirt on soil project. We have learn about  water erosion. water erosion is when water in our case wave are constanly hitting an  object and making it smaller.Water also moves things into a different place. It is considered weathering becuase well it is weather that break or moves something like rocks or sand.
Backward-Looking: I think work tells a story when you read about Surfers point you learn and understand what they went though. It makes you put things into perspective. It make you think what I do? Would I give up?It makes you consider what's going on to make them do this. It even has parts of a true story. Like problems, conclusion and more.I think that all studies where like stories of what happened and what they're doing.

Inward-Looking: I think this cause study had put me into perspective. It has shown me how much commotion erosion can make. At first ai thought that erosion just made land different.I never really thought of what it would do to the community. It made me think of erosion in a different way. It made me think of it more as a threat in some place and in other good.

Outward-Looking: If I where the teacher I would comment on the thing I knew we could have improved on. I think we should have practiced more becuase it a hard. I would say that we should have thought of our own solution. I think we should have done some things better. Yet if I where the teacher I would also say what was good so we could do it again.

Forward-Looking: Next time I would have a few goal I would to accomplish. One I want to be able to stay on task more because sometimes we got off task for a little. I also think that I would want to add more information to presenting. I also think I could speak a little faster and pratice more. They are kind of just general goal but they are something I can work on.
